“MacGruber”, the SNL sketch featuring Will Forte and Kristen Wiig, is (finally?) making it to the silver screen. But in true MacGruber fashion, the film’s got an obstruction in it’s way before making it to the giant Austin, TX music and film festival Southwest® (SXSW®): The folks behind “MacGyver”, Patti and Selma Bouvier’s favorite late-80’s/early-90’s epionage-themed television series featuring R.D.A.(Richard Dean Anderson, duh!), have been trying to put a halt to MacGruber, which is an obvious spoof of the show, for almost a year.
“MacGyver’s” original creator Lee Zlotoff is working on a film version of the popular TV show(presumably entitled MacGuyver, or possibly MacGuyver:The Movie, or maybe even Spike Lee presents: MacGuyver), and feels that a parody of his movie will hurt ticket sales. I can’t help thinking that either movie could bolster either of the other movie’s success, because I also think that both movies will be terrible and no one will see them.
That said, the comedy features SNL staples like Forte, Wiig, Maya Rudolph and Bill Hader, all of whom can get a giggle out of my belly from time-to-time. But it also features some bigger folks like Ryan Phillippe, Powers Booth, and a personal favorite, Val Kilmer, who is literally twice the man he was 25 years ago. Maybe it’ll be good.
Sike.
